Club History

When Glenmuir Football Club was formed in 1976, training and playing facilities comprised of the green areas in the local housing estates and later the grounds of DkIT.

In 1994 Glenmuir United F.C. agreed the purchase of 4.5 acres of land off Hoey’s Lane Dundalk from Dundalk Town Council for use as football pitches. The land as it stood at the time of purchase was quite unsuitable for use as a playing surface and a considerable amount of work was required to convert it into football pitches. The whole area had to be excavated, drainage installed, new surface laid and grass seed sown. We also had to construct a gravel road approx 200 yards in length from the main road to the entrance of the pitch.

As the club continued to grow and as we had no proper changing facilities and no all year round training facilities, a decision was taken to build a clubhouse and install an all-weather floodlit pitch.

In order to cater for the large number of players seeking to join our club we need to be able to use our grass pitch at all times during the week and to this end we installed floodlighting.

With the construction of our new clubrooms completed we needed to further develop the interior by tiling the changing rooms, shower areas and toilets. This was essential for hygiene reasons. We have an area of the clubrooms set aside which we plan to use as a gymnasium which will supplement our outdoor training facilities and will be of benefit to all club members and the local community groups who use our facilities.

Other staged developments include the erected fencing around the grounds for security reasons as our facilities have been prone to vandalism over the last few years, the tarmacing of the car park and the installation of a second (smaller) all weather flood lit pitch to cater for increase demand.
